Nokia is Striking Back

Nokia corporation (NYSE: NOK) is a Finnish communications and information technology multinational corporation that is headquartered in Espoo, Uusimaa. As of September 2013, Microsoft announced that it will acquire Nokia’s phone business and license it patents for 5.44 billion euros. After the acquirement, Nokia’s plan is to focus on three core technologies: the networking infrastructure (NSN), the maps and location-based services (HERE), and Advanced Technologies. Nokia gave details of how Microsoft will license Nokia’s brand, indicating that Microsoft has agreed to a 10-year license arrangement with Nokia to use the company’s brand name on current and subsequently developed products based on the Series 30 and Series 40 operating systems. Upon the closing of the transaction, Nokia would be restricted from licensing its own brand.
