Company Update (NASDAQ:CY): Cypress Semiconductor Corporation’s TrueTouch Touchscreen Controller Powers ZTE nubia Z7 Max Smartphone

ZTE, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, has selected a TrueTouch® capacitive touchscreen controller from Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:CY) for its flagship nubia Z7 Max smartphone. The phone uses the TrueTouch TMA568 controller to implement an easy-wake gesture feature that enables the user to wake the phone’s screen from sleep-mode by simply double tapping on the screen with a finger.

The nubia Z7 Max includes a 5.5-inch full HD touchscreen with robust water tolerance driven by the TMA568 controller. The controller brings the market’s most accurate gloved finger tracking to the phone and the ability to automatically switch between glove and finger tracking without requiring the user to change the phone’s settings. Additionally, TrueTouch controllers deliver the world’s highest immunity to electrical noise from chargers and displays, delivering reliable touch input in real-world environments where competing solutions experience false and missed touches.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Cypress and continue to be impressed with the company’s technical leadership in touchscreen technology,” said Ni Fei, CEO of the nubia brand. “We continually strive to provide our customers with world-class features, and TrueTouch controllers enable us to offer the unique features that enhance the user experience and differentiate our nubia line.”

“We are proud that nubia has chosen TrueTouch to bring reliable touchscreen performance and differentiating features to another world-class nubia smartphone,” said Joe Montalbo, vice president of the TrueTouch Business Unit at Cypress. “Our easy-wake gesture feature is another strong example of how TrueTouch provides innovative ways to improve the user experience, which fits in well with the feature-rich nubia Z7 Max.” TrueTouch solutions also drive the touchscreens of the nubia X6, Z5S, Z5S Mini and Z5 phones.

Electronic noise from displays and after-market chargers can disrupt a touchscreen’s ability to operate properly. Cypress’s Charger Armor™ feature delivers unprecedented 40 volt peak-to-peak (Vpp) charger noise immunity measured from 1 to 500 kHz with an ultra-thin 0.5-mm cover lens and a finger-size up to 22 mm–the most stringent specifications used to measure any touchscreen controller. No competing controllers deliver noise immunity over 15 Vpp under these conditions.

With Cypress’s unique and patented DualSense™ technology to execute both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements in the same device, TrueTouch controllers offer the industry’s best waterproofing for seamless performance in real-world conditions, including the presence of rain, condensation, or sweat. By combining this powerful architecture with an industry leading 32-bit ARM® Cortex® M-Core processor that is known for high-efficiency MIPS/mW, TrueTouch controllers boast 120-Hz refresh rates and low power consumption. The controllers drive the touchscreen at 10V and at high frequency with narrow-band, single-pass scanning and advanced hardware DSP filtering. (Original Source)
