Pivotal Research Sticks to Its Sell Rating for Facebook (FB)

Pivotal Research analyst Brian Wieser reiterated a Sell rating on Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) today and set a price target of $140. The company’s shares closed yesterday at $174.70.

Wieser observed:

“We maintain our $140 YE2018 price target and Sell rating. Last year we read a report in Australian trade publication AdNews related to over-statements of users there on Facebook in its Ads Manager tool, and we attempted to replicate the study for the US. As we wrote at the time, “through Facebook’s Ads Manager we can see that Facebook claims a potential reach within the US of 41mm 18-24 year-olds, 60mm 25-34 year-olds and 61mm 35-49 year-olds. By contrast, US Census data indicates that last year there are a total of 31mm 18-24 year-olds, 45mm 25-34 year-olds and 61mm 35-49 year-olds.”

According to TipRanks.com, Wieser is a 5-star analyst with an average return of 10.8% and a 76.9% success rate. Wieser covers the Services sector, focusing on stocks such as Interpublic Group of Companies, Nielsen Holdings, and 21st Century Fox.

Facebook has an analyst consensus of Strong Buy, with a price target consensus of $207.09.
