Oppenheimer Maintains Their Hold Rating on Smart & Final


In a report released yesterday, Rupesh Parikh from Oppenheimer maintained a Hold rating on Smart & Final (NYSE: SFS). The company’s shares closed yesterday at $5.30, close to its 52-week low of $5.

Parikh observed:

“We overall view the Q1 results and updated guidance as in line with to modestly above expectations. Total comps increased 1.2% vs. a Street figure of 1.3%. Strength in the Smart Foodservice Warehouse banner (+5.8%) offset still sluggish comp growth at SFS (flat). Management also delivered above-plan gross margins and EBITDA. We are encouraged by signs of stabilization at SFS, but still see muted profit growth, especially in a low food inflation environment supporting our Perform rating.”
