Cypress Semicon (CY)

In a report released today, Ruben Roy from MKM Partners initiated coverage with a Buy rating on Cypress Semicon and a price target of $20. The company’s shares opened today at $14.48, close to its 52-week low of $14.17.

Roy said:

“We are initiating coverage of Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (CY) with a Buy rating and a 12- month price target of $20. CY recently redefined itself as Cypress 3.0, a company with a sharper focus on strategic growth markets wherein management intends to leverage its strong portfolio of historical IP with new investments to drive a faster growth, higher profitability outcome. We believe that recent weakness in CY shares (and a number of downgrades) reflects lower expectations for the company’s NOR flash business with cycle fears driving concerns on the NOR ASP environment in 2019. We believe the notion that CY’s NOR business is at risk, near term, is wrong given our view that CY’s NOR business will be protected from ASP swings in 2019 because a large portion of the business is exposed to higher value customers in the automotive and industrial end markets.”

According to TipRanks.com, Roy is a 4-star analyst with an average return of 8.6% and a 59.1% success rate. Roy covers the Consumer Goods sector, focusing on stocks such as Skyworks Solutions, Maxim Integrated, and Cirrus Logic.

Cypress Semicon has an analyst consensus of Moderate Buy, with a price target consensus of $20.14.
